Howick Intermediate School
 Howick Intermediate School in Auckland have over 770 students each year, all in Year 7 and Year 8 (Seventh and Eighth graders, like a Junior High School in the US).
They teaching staff of 30+ continuously track the performance of the students through the year. At Mid Year and at the End of Year the school delivers a Parent Report for every student which describes performance and progress assessment information in detail.
Howick Intermediate had purchased a software package to do their Student Management, but were not happy with the Assessment module. The software resellers said they were unable (or unwilling) to customize it for their needs. They used an Excel solution, built by the ICT teacher, for a couple of years but found it was too difficult to operate and to incorporate changes to the teaching curriculum.
So Howick Intermediate called us in. We designed a custom database solution called “Academy” to help teachers track student progress, and to print Parent Reports in exactly the structure the schools wants. Changes in the teaching curriculum are a breeze now.
The school year from Feb 2005 to Dec 2005 was the first year Academy was used. In the 2006 year they will begin using the powerful new “Analysis” module which will reveal school-wide information about student achievement and progress. The data in 2006 will be extended beyond the teachers’ own tracking information to include all of the New Zealand-wide tests for reading, spelling, and mathematics.
